FAQ

1. Who is TRE® for?

Any mammal can release tension by neurogenic tremoring:). If you have any health limitations, we will discuss them before we start and adapt the session.

2. How should I prepare for the first meeting?

I recommend not to tremor just after eating however one should not be starving either. Comfortable clothes allowing for movement are optimal.

3. Can I learn TRE® on my own?

While the primary goal of any provider is to teach their client this method so that they can safely use it themselves, the following should also be mentioned: Although these exercises are freely available on the internet, the information on neurogenic tremor control and other important aspects of the process are VERY simplistic or missing. A certified provider undergoes two years of training and is trained to take into account each client's individual setting.

Yet another benefit is the different depth and quality of experience in a guided session. Often it is the presence of another that allows a person to release "material" that they would not unconsciously dare to do alone. If you've ever learned something from videos on the internet and then had the experience of a professional trainer/teacher doing the same thing with you, you've probably experienced the difference.

5. How often should I tremor?

Dr. Berceli's general rule of thumb for a person without significant physical or mental/emotional problems is 2-3 times a week for 15-20 minutes as a minimum maintenance frequency so that tension does not build up in the body. If you want to get rid of old tension patterns as well, I recommend shaking every other day or every third day. However, it all depends on the state of your nervous system. It is important not to release more tension than it can process, or integrate. Once you understand the method and have more experience, you can find your own rhythm and length.

Regular practice brings about big changes, but even if you only release tension occasionally, it's still better than letting deep patterns of muscle tension build up.

6. Do I have to do all the preparatory exercise every time?

A short answer is NO:).  A longer one would say the preparatory exercises serve to make our body remember tremoring mechanism. Once we revive it, they are usually no longer needed. However, sometimes (especially on days when one is busy with work or paying attention outside, f.e. being focused on a PC screen..) it's nice to go through them at least in some shortened 3-5 minute version, so that one can tune back into their body. However, this is not a requirement for successful stress discharge.

7. Why do people feel better after TRE®?

Tremoring, shivering, vibrations and other body movements cause the muscles to relax. . Relaxing tense muscle patterns can often reduce stress in the spine, neck, shoulders and pelvis. When tension is released anywhere in the body, the brain registers a reduction in pain signals, producing new hormones that promote healing.

8.  I do yoga, sports and meditate... why TRE®  then?

Sports, workouts and yoga often reduce muscle tension and help increase strength and flexibility. Many patterns of tension and contraction are found deep within the body, often without our awareness. TRE® reveals these less conscious but obvious patterns of tension and can release even muscles that are difficult to stretch mechanically, or at all, such as the iliopsoas.

People who exercise, play sports or train often talk about how TRE® has allowed them to recover faster and have a greater range of motion because the body is more relaxed overall.

People who practice meditation often report an increased awareness of a "deeper sense of self" that has a spiritual overlay for them, which many strive for. Once a deeper sense of self occurs, a deeper sense of connection with others and the "universe" or "spiritual" naturally arises.

Simply put, sport, meditation and TRE® work synergistically

9. Can I release stress/tension while watching TV or listening to music?

Yes, you can. For some people, sometimes, it is easier to release tension when their mind is occupied " elsewhere". Other times it is wise to give the body your full attention. It is very individual. I am happy to provide more details in person.

10. My tremor looks different from other people's.

Everyone is completely unique and there is no "right way" of tension release. It is natural that tension in large muscles such as thighs will be discharged/perceived differently than in small muscles around the spine. Our body knows exactly what it needs at any given moment and controls the process accordingly. It is very likely that you will experience many different body or energy movements. It is wise to be open-minded and not to overanalyze it.

11. I am afraid this will not work on me.

TRE® works with something that has been part of the human genetic makeup since the dawn of time. If your body is not shaking, there may be a number of reasons that can be worked with (e.g. lack of a sense of security, sub-optimal body position, or that the nervous system is currently discharging in other ways - for example, temperature changes or emotionally...). A certified instructor will help you find a solution.
